KG a Sun?

I know I’ve been harping on Kevin Garnett a lot, but it’s not very often that someone of his superstar stature is involved in so many trade rumors. The latest involves the Timberwolves sending KG to Phoenix, Phoenix sending Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta and Atlanta sending the #3 and #11 picks in this year’s draft to Minnesota. This rumor comes after a KG to Phoenix, Shawn Marion to Boston and the #5 and other players to Minnesota. I don’t know how Minnesota accepts this deal without Al Jefferson coming back their way, but with Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge involved in the same deal, anything can happen.

Either way, with one day left before the draft, the latest indications show Kevin Garnett heading to Phoenix, which was his top choice of other places to play (surprise, surprise). It’s truly amazing how much Steve Nash has completely transformed this team. Sure, they have plenty of other great talents in Marion, Stoudemire, Barbosa, etc., but the main attraction to Phoenix is absolutely Steve Nash.

I hope that Boston makes the deal and ends up with Marion. This guy has been living a highlight reel career for the past number of seasons with Nash, but has consistently said that he wants to be the top option somewhere else. Where else do you hear a star player say they would rather lead a team in scoring than play as a component to a championship-caliber team? For that alone, I hope Marion goes to Boston and learns to deal with taking passes from Delonte West and Rajon Rondo (who still hasn’t proven anything to me) rather than Steve Nash. Rondo got a lot of hype at the end of last season after he started playing well, but let’s remember that Mardy Collins also had a good end of the year.

Either way, I hope KG gets out of Minnesota. I would love to see him in New York, but I don’t see a Channing Frye, Stephon Marbury, David Lee and the #23 pick working anytime soon. Plus, the Knicks have Eddy Curry, that is more than enough.
