Former Villanova stand out Curtis Sumpter has been named to the Denver Nuggets Las Vegas Summer League team, a positive development for Sumpter after he went through last Thursday’s draft without hearing his name called.
Other known players on the team include Dajuan Wagner, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Lamond Murray and Mark Karcher.
The 6 foot 7 inch forward lead Villanova in scoring last season with 17.7 points per game and rebounds with 7.2 per contest. He was second in the Big East in scoring behind Syracuse’s Demetris Nichols and was named to the All-Big East First Team. Sumpter’s draft stock was largely affected by two knee injuries he sustained during his five years at Villanova. Sumpter tore the ACL in his knee twice and many teams were thrown off by the injury, deciding to pass on him for other players. Sumpter finished his five year career (he missed one season as a medical redshirt) averaging 13.3 points and 6.4 rebounds, while playing in 124 games.
