The New York Yankees won again last night, defeating the Baltimore Orioles 8-5, thanks to a relatively strong outing from rookie Phil Hughes and 2 RBI each from Bobby Abreu and Doug Mientkiewicz. Also last night, the Toronto Blue Jays got three home runs from Frank “The Big Hurt” Thomas, as they defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-1, bringing the Yankees to within 3 1/2 games of the AL East Division lead.
The New York Mets lost their fourth game in a row and fifth in their last six games, thanks to the Washington Nationals who defeated them 12-4 last night. To make matters worse for the Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies were victorious once again, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 13-11. Ryan Howard and Aaron Rowand each had two home runs in the contest, with the former driving in five total runs in the game.
