Kienny Lofton went 3-4 with four RBI, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 12-3 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 1 of their ALDS match up last night. C.C. Sabathia didn’t pitch particularly well for the Tribe, but the Indians offense carried him to a victory.
The Yankees were held to only 5 hits, with Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui all held hitless. Johnny Damon and Robinson Cano each hit solo home runs and Bobby Abreu had an RBI double in the 5th inning.
As expected, LeBron James was present for the game, an interesting tidbit after he admitted earlier in the week that he was cheering for the Yankees. James even showed up wearing a Yankee hat, but removed it by the sixth inning as his favorite team was getting creamed. Chants of “Take off the hat!” were prevalent throughout the game and eventually the basketball icon relented. Though he grew up in Akron, OH which is less than 35 miles away from Cleveland, he is a lifelong Yankee fan. Maybe not anymore after last night.
Game 2 will be tonight with Fausto Carmona going up against Andy Pettitte.
